The Achilles tendon is a tendon at the back of the leg that connects calf muscles with the heel. This tendon can rupture and become inflamed by overuse or sudden applied force. If partially torn, the tendon remains connected to the calf muscle. A full tear removes the connection between the calf muscles and the heel.
